Welcome to Paihia

Since Captain Cook first dropped anchor in the Bay of Islands in 1769, New Zealand has been well known as a maritime nation, with a diverse and magnificent coastline containing many safe anchorages.

Nowhere is this better displayed than in the Paihia and Russell areas – the very heart of this wonderful playground. With 146 islands in the sun to tempt and reward, the Bay of Islands enjoys a subtropical climate; warm enough to grown a vast array of tropical fruits yet balmy enough to enjoy all year round. Daily temperatures range from 15 degrees in June’s mid-winder to 28 degrees at the height of summer. 135 days of sunshine per annum draws sailors and adventure-seekers from around the world.

Watersports of all kinds keep the most active visitors happy. Some of the best fishing and diving the world has to offer is right here – alongside the heart-stopping displays of cavorting dolphins and the numerous and informative bus tours or play a round of golf on the absolutely gorgeous Waitangi golf course, where the views are breathtaking and the bird life cheeky.

Paihia and Russell share a stake in New Zealand’s earliest development; this is the heart of our country’s history and colonization. Today both also share a myriad of dining styles and cafes, tourism related activities and a range of accommodation to please every style of traveler.

Both towns, and their outlying areas, create enormous interest with property buyers, both nationally and internationally. Waterfront land and any property that can claim a great sea view is a superb investment. As values continue to rise, demand grows as well. This unspoilt and beautiful part of our world has managed to retain its unique seaside village atmosphere while encouraging investment from around the globe.

Paihia is an easy 3 ½ hour drive from Auckland, with Russell just a ferry trip and 15 minute drive further. Airports are at Whangarei and Kerikeri and rental cars are available at both.
